Arts & Crafts
The children here at Mercy Primary just love being creative. Whether it’s with paint, paper mache or knitting needles we believe this creative time is a very important element of our curriculum. We also run many after-school activities for the children to further explore their creativity and skills.
As Albert Einstein famously said….
“Creativity is intelligence having fun…”
We certainly believe this to be a testament to the children here at Mercy Primary.
In recent months our pupils have really begun to enjoy knitting. We have now set up an after-school activity each week with one of our own teachers, Rachel Kilbane. The pupils knit, crochet and embroider many wonderful pieces all of which are on display in our school.
Music
Here at Mercy Primary we place much emphasis on music and the arts. Our children are taught Tin-Whistle from 1st Class upwards and they host many performances throughout the year both in school and at different events around the city.
Our school band has a long standing tradition within our school. Pupils are taught and play a range of instruments including tin whistles, accordions and bell lyres.
Our pupils really enjoy being part of the school band and there is always heightened excitement over the Christmas period, when they are at their busiest, playing at lots of Christmas events throughout Galway City.
Our school band and choir also performs at Our Sacramental Ceremonies, School Masses and School Concerts.
